This feature narrows the search results. If you select "India", "Carpet & rug" and "Child labour", you will receive only those items that cover all 3 subjects, ie. only those items covering the use of child labour in the Indian carpet/rug industry.
If you click a category heading as one of your selections (eg. "Discrimination"), the search will return items for all the sub-categories of that heading (eg. for "Age discrimination", "Disability discrimination", "Gender discrimination", etc.). In most cases users will want to select specific sub-categories rather than category headings.

Tip for users:
Beware of choosing too many subjects for a single cross-category search. For example, if you select "Child labour", "India", "Pakistan", "Cambodia", "Honduras", "Paraguay", and "Egypt", you will probably receive no results because it is unlikely a single report about child labour refers to all those countries. Instead, do one search for "India" and "Child labour", then a separate search for "Pakistan" and "Child labour", etc.
