Hankook Tire now faces double criticism after the Hungarian governments' cancellation of its subsidy payment due to the company's illegalities added to domestic criticism over its plant workers' deaths in Daejeon...the company was fined for making employees work extra hours and for hiring 32 Korean dispatched workers without reporting to the government...The tire company spokesman Calvin Pak said the company had a few ``mishaps'' in the beginning due to lack of understanding, but had corrected these and paid the fine as well.

Less than a month after the opening ceremony of its new tire factory in Dunaújváros, central Hungary, South Korean tire manufacturer Hankook has already attracted the attention of employment authorities... The long list of worker complaints ranges from irregularities in payroll accounting, late payment, no extra pay for overtime and weekend shifts, unsafe and unsanitary work conditions, allegedly illegal dismissal of employees, and attempts to deter workers from unionization.
