Business & Human Rights Resource Centre appoints East Asia Researcher

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Roddy Shaw Kwok-wah as its first regional researcher, based in Hong Kong, China.

An anti-discrimination advocate in Hong Kong, Roddy worked as legal researcher for Civil Rights for Sexual Diversities and represented victims at Hong Kong’s Equal Opportunities Commission, on cases of sexual harassment, discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, marital and family status, and disability.  He has also served as a mediator for the Equal Opportunities Commission.  He was co-convenor of Civil Human Rights Front, an NGO coalition with more than 50 member organizations in Hong Kong.  He is a trainer and consultant to many NGOs on human rights advocacy and has run workshops on human rights case documentation.  In Roddy's earlier career, he worked as a technology and management consultant for multinational corporations in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Bangkok and Singapore. 

Roddy graduated from University of Hong Kong (LLM in Human Rights; MA in Cultural and Literary Studies).  He also obtained a BSc (Hons) in Computer Studies from City University of Hong Kong.

Roddy is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin & English, with good Thai & French.

Roddy will be drawing attention to the human rights impacts (positive and negative) of companies in East Asia; highlighting under-reported issues and cases; and building contacts with East Asian NGOs, companies, journalists and government representatives.
