In the viewpoint of protection of human rights there are serious problems in the sphere of environment conservation…”The main issues…refer to…presence of industrial wastes and inappropriate control over mining companies,” A. Harutyunyan [Ombudsman of the Republic of Armenia] said…He focused on the frequent alarms of environmental NGOs in regard to the disastrous situation in Kapan [refers to Deno Gold Mining Company’s activity]. “Heavy toxic metals have been discovered in soil, water and food. Even a number of elements have been revealed the concentration of which exceeds the standard by hundred times. These substances…accumulate in water, soil and…human organism…[T]his fact affects on immune system and human genofond,” the ombudsman stressed out.
