New: Lawsuit against Anglo American (re lead poisoning in Zambia)

In October 2020 UK law firm Leigh Day and Johannesburg attorneys Mbuyisa Moleele filed a class action against Anglo American South Africa Ltd in the Johannesburg High Court on behalf of Zambian communities living next to the Kabwe lead mine, alleging that Anglo American failed to take adequate steps to prevent lead poisoning from 1925 to 1974.

Lawsuit against Apple, Google, Tesla, and others (re child labour, DRC)

In 2019, IRAdvocates, a US-based NGO filed a class action lawsuit against Apple, Google, Tesla, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Dell alleging the corporations profited from child labour in their cobalt supply chains in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Plaintiffs are either guardians of children killed in cobalt mining tunnels or children who were maimed while working in the mines.

Lydian International lawsuits against activists (re defamation on environmental hazards, Armenia)

Since 2018 "Lydian Armenia" CJSC, a subsidiary of Lydian International, aUK-registered gold mining company operating in Armenia, filed at least 14 lawsuits against civil society organisations, lawyers, journalists and local communities for alleged defamation in relation to environmental hazards posed by one of its gold mine projects.

NSO Group lawsuit (re hacking WhatsApp users)

In 2019, WhatsApp filed suit in California state court against NSO Group, an Israeli-based spyware firm, alleging illegal hacking. They request an injunction to block NSO Group from attempting to access its computer system, as well as damages for violating Computer Fraud and Abuse legislation. The case is ongoing.
