Jordan: NGOs criticise govt. proposal to regulate agricultural work

In a letter sent to the minister of labour, the Anti Violence and Harassment in Workplace Coalition, said that the draft does not take into account the special nature agriculture sector, in particular, the types of work agreement, workers’ rights and protections, gender issues and the special protection required for certain groups. Furthermore, the draft does not provide for the inclusion of all workers in social security, nor does it address the issue of workplace inspection or address health and occupational safety in the workplace. Also, the draft does not regulate issues such as workers transport, condition of the workers’ accommodation or the need for special places and facilities for women workers.

Another NGO coalition – the “National Alliance to demand the Issuance of regulatory framework for the agriculture sector” - called the draft "insufficient” [not sure where the “…” should end], and that it lacks the provisions that should provide full protection for workers in the agriculture sector.
