Myanmar: Military allegedly approves M1 & Shwe Byain Phyu partnership to takeover Telenor's operations; activists fear sale risks exposure of personal data

Media report alleges that military leaders approved a partnership between M1 Group and Shwe Byain Phyu Group to take over Telenor's operations in Myanmar. Shwe Byain Phyu allegedly has known links to the Myanmar military. Activists group fears that the arrangement "deepens the risk to Myanmar people, whose personal data is exposed through the sale" considering that Telenor intends to handover all assets including call data records to the buyer.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited M1 and Shwe Byain Phyu to respond to an article allegations in the media report. M1 and Shwe Byain Phyu did not respond.
