...On 15 to 17 June there was a national human and environmental defenders meeting in Lima...The meeting was also attended by observers from the European Union, the UK and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the national Congress and the Ministry for the Environment.

Those present demanded attention from the State and an end to the criminalisation of protests, as well as the holding of a national assembly to write a new constitution...

The principal agreements with the Ministry of Justice included the revision of the contracts made between the national police and the mining companies; a meeting about a plenary agreement on 20 June; and the creation of an inter-agency group to coordinate interventions in response to the violation of the rights of defenders.
