Solomon Islands: Locals successfully resist renewal of Australian miner's licences; co. appeals decision

A media report (linked below) cites the emergence of resistance to the renewal of Pacific Bauxite's licences to prospect and operate on Nende Island in the remote Temotu province of the Solomon Islands. It was alleged that there was inadequate consultation and a flawed licensing process when the initial prospecting licence was granted in 2016.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Pacific Bauxite to respond to these concerns. The company did not.

Local communities were ultimately successful in opposing the renewal of the Australian miner's licences. The company has appealed the decision to rescind its prospecting licence.
