"Las Bambas: Community members from Apurímac arrive in Lima to complain about attempted eviction" - 25 February 2021

...Tensions are rising between the mining company MMG-Las Bambas [part of China Minmetals] and the community of Pumamarca, located in the district of Tambobamba, province of Cotabambas, Apurímac. On 20 February, there was a violent attempt by police officers to evict them from land that the community sold to Las Bambas in 2011 under conditions that they consider irregular and unjust, and which they are currently claiming for livestock and agriculture... In this context, a commission of community members arrived in the capital yesterday 24 February seeking dialogue with officials from the Executive and Congress of the Republic, however, they have not been received by any authority to date. For this reason, they are calling a press conference TODAY at 3.00 p.m. in the Plaza San Martin, to publicly demand security guarantees from the Peruvian State... The community has been occupying the land they sold in 2011 for two weeks. According to their complaints, there were shortcomings in terms of the information necessary for the operation and they also denounce the lack of compliance with the agreements with the community...
