Civil society groups working with communities affected by World Bank-financed projects have called for a revision to the World Bank Environmental & Social Framework that ensures they uphold and ensure respect for human rights. They specifically called for World Bank not to "delegate" its due diligence responsibilities to the borrowers; strengthen protections against forced evictions; strengthen public participation and access to information; ensure access to effective remedy in case of violations; and ensure gender mainstreaming to ensure that projects impacts on women and girls are addressed.
