On the night of Sunday 29 December, indigenous members of the Avá Guarani people were attacked with homemade bombs, shot at and had a house burnt down in the municipality of Guaíra, in western Paraná. The attack came from three men on motorbikes and hit the Yvy Okaju community, also called Y'Hovy, an area that is part of the Guasu Guavirá Indigenous Land (TI) and which, with the demarcation process stalled, was retaken by the indigenous people.

The Avá Guarani have been demanding the demarcation of their original lands for decades. Farmers, ranchers and other segments of society act criminally against the communities.

The community had already been attacked in July, August andOctober.
