Bayer's response re- alleged involvement in extractive conflicts

Thank you for informing us and providing us the opportunity to comment. Whereas the underlying publication does not mention Bayer AG, we are of course aware that the production of food for a growing world population of currently ~8bn people on limited land with naturally limited resources bears inherent challenges. This also includes resource and environmental challenges which in turn have the potential for human rights conflicts.

At Bayer AG, we address these challenges with innovation and responsible business conduct:

Innovation in agriculture is essential to feed more people without agricultural land expansion. Or to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. Every year, we invest >2bn EUR into agricultural innovation.

In terms of responsible business conduct, Bayer AG is deeply committed to respecting human rights both within our own company and along our entire value chain. We have solid human rights due diligence in place and are constantly adapting and improving, following the guidance of the United Nations Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct. More see here: Bayer Human Rights Policy | Bayer Global and in our transparent external reporting (see below).

On environmental matters, we also have far-reaching commitments and strong achievements (see reporting below)….
