Employees at the Le Meridien Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap called a strike to demand the hotel management reinstate three union representatives who they say were unfairly terminated last July 2020. The three are Ms. Kham Sreypheak, Ms. Sok Naren and Ms. Doeum Chhaya. These workers were allegedly terminated without proper legal basis and in a way that may infringe on their rights as trade unionists. Recent negotiations between unions and Le Meridien’s representatives are stalled. Unions have refused to accept compensation and are calling for their reinstatement.

The hotel is managed by the international hotel group Marriott International which owns the Le Meridien brand and has a positive record supporting workers’ rights in the US and Europe.
