The Estonian company expelled from the Turku shipyard over alleged worker exploitation has still been recruiting welders in Finland.

The firm has been offering jobs in both Turku and Helsinki. The information comes from an STT investigation in which the news agency, using a cover identity, posed as a Ukrainian jobseeker.

In September, STT reported that Ukrainian workers had been underpaid while employed by Estonian subcontractors at the Turku shipyard. In October, Meyer Turku announced that it had terminated contracts with two firms named in the reporting, Hodes and Bongo Marine.

In September, Hodes advertised shipbuilding welding and repair jobs in Finland. The Russian-language notice promised above-average pay, free accommodation and workwear.

This month, STT arranged for a Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking person to call the number listed in Hodes' ad. On the phone, the caller, posing as a Ukrainian welder named "Igor," was told that the company was still hiring both in Turku and Helsinki.

STT reported using a cover identity to gather information because, after months of attempts, Hodes and other firms linked to the exploitation of Ukrainian workers had refused to comment on their operations in Finland…
