DMV closes language center in lapu for illegal hiring
THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ordered the closure of a language learning center in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, on Friday, May 16, 2025, for allegedly engaging in illegal recruitment and placement activities without the required license.
The Aseanway Learning and Development Center and its sister company, IWA Language Learning Center, became the 13th establishments ordered closed by the DMW this year for similar violations.
Despite presenting themselves as language learning institutions, the DMW discovered they were referring students to job agencies in Japan without the proper authorization.
Eric Dollete, director of the DMW’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau, said in an interview on Friday, that these referrals were made to agencies based in Metro Manila that offered work in Japan under the Technical Intern Training Program.
The jobs advertised included factory work, farming, welding, hotel staff, and fruit picking, with promised monthly salaries ranging from P50,000 to P70,000. Applicants reportedly paid P15,888 for 150 hours of language training as a prerequisite for overseas employment…
