Francisco Lucas Pedro (Palas Luin) is a journalist and indigenous Mayan community defender. He was arrested on 21st December 2019 for his work covering the controversial hydroelectric dam project, Hidro Santa Cruz, funded by Spanish company Ecoener Hidralia Energía in Mayan territory. He was accused of terrorism and kidnap amongst other crimes. On 3rd January 2020 the defender was released, and all charges were dropped.
