"China “Going Global” Series, GEI Releases Two Reports on China’s FDI at Symposium", 2 Feb 2016

Global Environmental Institute (GEI)…released two of five reports that investigate China’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)… The…reports are now available to the public via GEI’s website and are titled “Understanding China’s Overseas Investment Governance and Analysis of Environmental and Social Policies” and “Lao Policy and Management System on FDI and Chinese Mining, Hydropower, Agricultural Investments in Laos.” The remaining reports for Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar will be released within this year.

GEI’s country-specific reports delve into the nature of the investment in the Greater Mekong Subregion. In 2014, China's OFDI overtook FDI at USD 123.1 billion invested across 186 countries and, during this time, China was the largest investor in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. Further, the reports detail that China's investment projects, namely in the infrastructure, construction, utilities, mining, agriculture or forestry industries, in this region are having significant environmental and social impacts…
