Japan: Real estate company is criticised for including “LGBT not allowed" in tenant requirements

The Japan Alliance for LGBT Legislation raised concern after a real estate company listed "LGBT not allowed" as among the conditions for renting property. In a response to a media interview, the company responded that "[i]t was inappropriate and misleading. It was the result of human error and we had no intention of discriminating against LGBT people”.

In its statement, the Japan Alliance for LGBT Legislation said that the discriminatory treatment is common to sexual minorities who may have difficulty in securing housing.
