Repatriation of I-Kiribati seafarers stranded in Fiji, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, South Korea, and Spain, due to COVID-19 restrictions is underway following recent travel arrangements. Despite that, Kiribati’s ongoing border closures delay the process leaving seafarers concerned about losing access to basic living wages while in transition.
