Mexico: NGOs demand cancellation of Veolia´s waste disposal plant due to possible negative environmental & social impacts

Environmental and human rights NGOs including Fronteras Comunes, Laboratorio de Investigación en Desarrollo Comunitario y Sustentabilidad, and Greenpeace Mexico requested the government of Mexico City to cancel the thermo-valorization plant for waste disposal of Proactiva Medio Ambiente, part of Veolia. According to civil society, this plant will have negative impacts on the quality of the air, the health of citizens, and will also result in a loss of employment. NGOs also denounce the lack of consultation. The full allegations are available in Spanish here.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Veolia to respond; the response is available here.
