Myanmar: Garment workers report multiple labour rights violations at Myanmar Hua Yue Garment; incl. co. response

In August 2024, it was reported that workers at Myanmar Hua Yue Garment are facing a series of violations, including excessive overtime overnight without dinner or transport provided and workers forced to sleep in the factory, workers forced to work overtime if they don’t meet targets, workers feeling tired and weak due to overtime shifts, overtime pay paid a week later, causing financial difficulties, denial of legal benefits and wage deductions if workers take leave, daily wage and overtime pay not paid equally, underage workers and daily wage workers hired at the factory, verbal abuse and harassment from supervisors, workers charged for arriving to work late, and security guards harassing workers during inspections.

It was also reported that a worker hired as a day labourer at Myanmar Hua Yue Garment fell from a high height when trying to hang clothes, and took three days off after visiting the clinic. The factory dismissed the worker for taking the days off.

In December 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Barbara Lebek, H&M and Semir International to respond. Only H&M responded - the response can be found below.
