"Sinovir workers ‘trapped’ in the company that closed: no pay, no work and no unemployment benefit", 17 November 2024

The 80 or so workers at the Sinovir shoe factory in the parish of Novais in Famalicão are still officially linked to the company, as the formalities required to access unemployment benefit have not yet been finalised.

Although the factory closed at the end of September, the employees are not working, but continue to depend on Sinovir. So far, October's wages have not been paid, leaving many families in financial difficulties...

As soon as the formalities are finalised, it is expected that the workers will receive the wages they have been owed during this impasse.

Cidade Hoje tried unsuccessfully to contact the insolvency administrator for clarification, but the Footwear, Luggage and Related Products, Components, Forms and Tannery Union of Minho and Trás-os-Montes confirmed that the situation is still ongoing and assured that it is monitoring the case in defence of the workers' rights.
