Russia: Operations suspended for 90 days at EVRAZ-owned West Siberian metallurgical plant over industrial safety violations

Anschuldigungen

[Summary translation prepared by Business & Human Rights Centre]

Operations at metallurgical plant in Kuzbass suspended for three months, 11 April 2025

Court bailiffs in Novokuznetsk have suspended the operation of hazardous facilities belonging to a joint-stock company for 90 days. The case concerns an EVRAZ metallurgical enterprise, according to sources cited by kuzbass.aif.ru.

“During an inspection, violations of mandatory industrial safety standards and regulations were identified. Specifically, the switching unit supplying power to an excavator was being operated beyond its service life; the excavator was not equipped with electrical protective equipment; and elements were missing from the protective railing of the platform used to access the excavator for maintenance personnel, creating a risk of falling from height. The identified violations posed an immediate threat to the life and health of workers,” representatives of the bailiff service reported.

The court found the legal entity guilty of violating industrial safety requirements. Bailiffs will continue to monitor the facility to ensure proper compliance with the court’s ruling.
