S. Korea: Coupang and affiliates face government inspection over alleged underreporting of workplace accidents
“Labour Ministry inspects 100 Coupang and affiliates over suspected concealment of industrial accidents”, 16 March 2026
The Ministry of Employment and Labour announced on 16 March that it has launched a planned inspection targeting around 100 sites, including centres and camps operated by Coupang, Coupang Fulfilment Service (CFS), and Coupang Logistics Service (CLS). The inspection will not only examine allegations that responsibility for industrial accident prevention was reduced or concealed, but will also broadly assess compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act. It will also include whether CLS has implemented improvements recommended following a Ministry inspection in 2024.

The Ministry analysed data including emergency 119 transport cases, industrial accident claims, and industrial accident investigation reports involving Coupang and its affiliates after related concerns were repeatedly raised during a National Assembly hearing on Coupang in December last year. Based on this, the inspection aims to verify suspected cases of non-reporting of industrial accidents or concealment of accident occurrences.
