Serbia: Uzbek labour migrants allegedly exploited on farms

Most of the Uzbek labour migrants who went to Serbia to work in the fields were sent back to Uzbekistan by their employers.

Uzbek workers complained to the editorial office of Ozodlik about violations of terms of their labor contracts.

A representative of the Agency for External Labour Migration under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which had sent Uzbeks to work in Serbia, told our editors that the situation is currently being investigated.

A group of Uzbek labour migrants sent to work in Serbia through this agency claim they were fired by their employer without explanation.

The migrants told Ozodlik that half of the 500 Uzbeks who went to collect cucumbers in Serbia were sent home without money...

Uzbek workers say they are being deported for no reason; they are accused of violating immigration rules. Migrants report that their employers constantly harass them and fine them for every wrongdoing. One of the videos they sent showed them being yelled at by a German-speaking employer...
