Leader of MALOA (Malen Land Owners and Users Association) and former Member of Parliament in Sierra Leone was sentenced to five months in prison, allegedly for committing abuses against Socfin Agricultural Company (Socfin Group) (oil palm damaging) in its plantation. MALOA maintained that MALOA members were defending their rights to land and livelihood against land grab by Socfin. In recent past, Shiaka Sama was invited to Paris by the Bolloré Group to find a solution to the conflicts linked to the exploitation  of plantations in Africa and Cambodia by subsidiaries of Socfin. In June 2016, six MALOA activists were released.
