On 24 November 2024, Soeu Sochea, an online journalist who actively reported on environmental and deforestation issues in Kampong Thom province in Cambodia, was arrested after producing a video criticizing the deforestation activities in the province. He has reported on illegal logging in the area. The arrest followed a lawsuit filed by the Provincial Environmental Department on 20 May 2024 for incitement and defamation.
