Spotify criticised for allegedly spreading misinformation & Access Now calls for strengthened human rights due diligence; co. did not respond

In January 2022, several high-profile artists pulled their songs from Spotify in protest of its hosting of Joe Rogan’s podcast, which has been criticized for spreading misinformation about Covid-19.

Some NGOs have also expressed concerns about Spotify's alleged lack of action to combat misinformation on its platform. Access Now said that Spotify has failed to produce a human rights-centered policy to combat misinformation and called on the company to strengthen its human rights due diligence.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Spotify to respond to these allegations; it did not respond.
