USA: Swedish pension fund AP7 blacklists & sells shares in Tesla, citing violations of right to unionisation in US; incl. co. non-response

In June, it was reported by Reuters that Swedish pension fund AP7 blacklisted and sold its shares in Tesla due to “verified violations of labour rights in the United States”. In particular, the fund cited violations of union rights.

In a statement, the pension fund said Tesla failed to take “sufficient measures” to address the issues, despite “several years of dialogue” and proposals of collaboration with other investors. The fund’s stake in Tesla represented around 1% of the AP7 Equity Fund.

Previous reporting on Tesla has highlighted the denial of collective bargaining rights for workers in Europe and violations of the rights of undocumented workers in the USA, among other labour rights abuses.

In June, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Tesla to respond to the reporting that AP7 has blacklisted and sold its shares due to violations of the right to unionisation in the USA. It did not respond.
