[...] Qurium revealed that the Philippine human rights group Karapatan, a long term enemy of the Duterte regime, was suffering a lengthy DDoS attack. The attack, lasting for 25 consecutive days, involved multiple attack vectors and changed strategy and infrastructure several times during the course of the attack. The malicious traffic, aiming to take down the site, targeted the /resources folder of Karapatan’s website, where the reports on human rights abuse in the Philippines are stored.

Since the attack started, Qurium has been investigating the attack traffic with the aim to understand the attack, which has been unique in its kind, and to identify those that either enable the attack or carry it out. In the report “Israeli firm ‘Bright Data’ (Luminati Networks) enabled the attacks against Karapatan“, we publish the detailed work of Qurium’s Forensics Lab which lead to an Israeli firm offering access to millions of proxies in mobile operators, data centers and residential buildings – a perfect infrastructure to hide the source of DDoS attacks.
