Workers at Arab Potash Company face serious labour abuses incl. wages discrimination and impediment against freedom of association; Co. did not respond

An article published by Jrannan (a local organization in Jordan) alleges that Arab Potash company has committed serious labour violations against its workers. The Article claims that workers in the company have been subject to discrimination with regards to promotion and wages which affected working conditions in the company. The article further alleges that the company has used union busting tactics to shrink the space and prevent freedom of association. Also, the company has been harassing and threatening workers representatives and preventing them from practicing their union activities.

The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre contacted Arab Potash for response; the company did not respond.

On 5 Nov 2020, the Arab Potash Company and the Union of Mining workers reached an agreement aiming to enhance the collaboration and coordination between the company and the union and to solve any future conflicts by application of labour law provisions. The agreement was signed under the auspices of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions.
