So. Africa: One-year anniversary of massacre at Lonmin’s Marikana mine

16 Aug 2013 marks the one-year anniversary of the Marikana massacre, which resulted in 44 dead and 75 injured following one week of unauthorised strike action at Lonmin’s Marikana mine.  In the defining incident of the massacre, 34 mine workers were shot and killed by members of the South African Police Service.
