Diego Alfredo Chirán Nastacuas was an AWA indigenous community member. Diego was tortured to death by unknown assailants. He worked for the consolidation of the resistance and the the politic process. In addition, He worked as indigenous leader in his community. He worked for the well-being of the AWA people and fought against illegal logging in their territories by new armed groups called “Organización sicarial del pacífico” and “Nuevo Orden”. Diego denounced the lack of reaction by the local authorities to such developments.
