Medical Nziba is a community leader and defender of women’s rights, working in a grassroots organization, supported by WoMin, in Emaqibini Village, Kwazulu Natal in southeastern South Africa. For over 15 years, the villages around the Somkhele Tendele coal mines have been struggling for water. In August 2019 women from the villages organised a march which lasted for two days. She was arrested together with 29 other women for illegal protest and was jailed for nine days.
