Ramon Dagaas Pesadilla and Leonela Tapdasan Pesadilla, Filipino anti-mining and land rights advocates, were shot dead inside their home after an unknown attacker forcibly entered their house and opened fire. They were members of the Compostela Farmers’ Association (CFA), which opposes large-scale mining projects in the area. The spouses were active members of a farmers group and had donated a piece of land for a community school. This made them a target for attack as security forces allege indigenous community schools to be supportive of an anti-government armed group. They were shot at their home on 2 March 2017.
