On 12 April 2018, Carlos González and Cristián Chavez,members of the National Indigenous Council (Congreso Nacional Indígena), were on their way to Huajimic, Nayarit, as part of the Commission of the Agricultural Tribunal of Tepic, to execute the decision of the Tribunal of granting land rights to the Wixárika community. When approaching the site, they were intercepted by more than 20 vans and several armed men which allegedly told them they were going to be burned with gas and hung if they continue to work with the communities. According to the report those men allegedly represented land owners and ranchers.
