Marinalva Silva de Souza, 37 years year old, and Flávio Lima de Souza, 42 years old, were rural workers directors of Associação dos Produtores Rurais da Comunidade da Região do Igarapé Araras (Asprocria, association of rural workers of Community of Igarape Araras). Jairo Feitosa Pereira, 52 years old, was also a rural worker and community leader. They were community leaders of communities who had occupied the land in Gleba C-1/Igarapé Araras, city of Canutama, State of Amazonas. They disappeared in the tributary river Igarapé Araras, on 12/14/2017. They were counting the number of land lots in Gleba C-1/Igarapé Araras. This information was going to be sent to INCRA (Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária - National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform, a federal government authority of the public administration) for the process of regularization of the area, that had been occupied by 316 families in 2015. The three leaders had already received death threats for guiding the families to resist and stay in the land. The land is considered public land. But the Shalom farm, through the Grupo Master Holding SA (according to Amazonia Real, the farm belonged to companies Rosiquepolo Holding S/A and Master Holding S/A, of the real estate and logging sectors), is requesting ownership of this land, according to Comissão Pastoral da Terra. The search for the victims was done by the army, firefighters, civilian and military police, but on 24 December they were suspended, and considered unsuccessful. On 31 December 2017, the Court of Justice of Amazonas (Tribunal de Justiça do Amazonas) sent Antônio Mijoler Garcia Filho and Rinaldo da Silva Mota, both employees of the Shalom farm, to preventive detention as they were considered suspects of the crime.
