On 15 February 2019, Justino Xollim was arrested on his way to denounce the illegal logging in the Poqomchi' territory by the company Maderas Filips Dias/Eco-Tierraz, after an arrest warrant was issued against Justino and other members of the community. He was arrested by the Tourism Security Division, while he waited for the lawyer outside the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to the information provided by the lawyer and other members of the community who accompanied him. The poqomchi commuities have been trying to denounce the logging of forests in their territory. The wood company Fillips Diaz and Ecotierras in the spring of San Cristóbal Verapaz allegedly have an interest in the primary forest. The Secretariat of Agrarian Affairs undertook to investigate the problem.
