On the night of Friday 18 November 2016, two hooded men burst into Didier Losada Barreto’s house in the village of Platanillo, in the municipality of La Uribe (Meta), and shot him dead at close range in front of his wife and children. Didier, also known by the nickname ‘Mango’, came from a family of community leaders. The 28-year-old was President of El Platanillo Community Action Board (Junta de Acción Comunal) in San Juan de Lozada. He also belonged to Losada Guayabero Ascal – G, an environmental and peasant association that denounced the presence of paramilitary groups in the region and opposes oil exploitation projects. Didier, was also part of the socio-political movement Marcha Patriótica.
