2 ESG Analysts at FTSE

Job Summary

FTSE is looking to recruit two ESG Analysts  (12 month contracts) who would have particular responsibility to support engagement and communication with companies regarding their ESG Ratings and their status with respect to the FTSE4Good Indices. FTSE would like to find a Japanese speaker for one of the two roles.  Many companies globally are requesting information regarding their ESG Ratings and a number of companies globally are at risk of potential deletion from the FTSE4Good Indices. These two roles will implement the communication program with these companies ensuring these companies are properly supported and effectively communicated with.   This will involve direct communication with senior corporate executives.  This is an ideal opportunity to develop experience and expertise in the sustainable investment area with a globally recognised team and company.

The Business Need

FTSE has been a pioneer in ESG services since the launch of the FTSE4Good Index Series in 2001.  Since this time FTSE has invested in continually growing its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) services to met client demand and has developed an internationally known and respected team.  Building on its market position FTSE is developing a revised and enhanced ESG service offering to be launched in 2014/15. This is an exciting opportunity for a high calibre individual to join FTSE’s pre-eminent ESG team.  

Key Functions and Responsibilities 

The individual will have responsibilities requiring strong analytical abilities and outstanding communication (both inter-personal and writing) skills.  This is a 12 month position with particular responsibility to support engagement and communication with companies regarding their ESG Ratings and their status with respect to the FTSE4Good Indices. 

Communication:              

Implementation of the communication program with companies regarding their ESG Ratings and  the FTSE4Good Indices

Ability to clearly and succinctly describe complex concepts and methodologies

This will require communications through the following mediums; email, hard copy letters, telephone calls and face to face meetings

This will include communication globally with external individuals in a variety of corporate roles including; Senior Executives, Sustainability, Investor Relations, Company Secretaries,  Communications and Marketing.

Delivery of high calibre verbal and written reports including the preparation of presentations and papers

Preparing materials in relation to FTSE ESG and FTSE4Good methodology

Seeking input and coordinating communications with clients, NGOs, business associations, academic and subject experts

Project management:

Some coordination with internal and external teams

Ability to balance conflicting demands and deliver multiple projects to deadlines

Executing administrative and other tasks concurrently

Analytical:          

Analytical focus and eye for detail in preparation of technical communications, papers and ESG trend analysis

Analytical support for marketing and communications

Qualifications/Experience

It is expected that with limited supervision the candidate will be able to deliver all key aspects of the role identified above. You will have had some work experience, preferably within financial services.

Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (MBA, MSc or CFA desirable)

Excellent verbal and written ability in English is essential together with a professional business and communication manner. Experience in communicating with senior executives is desirable

Language skills are desirable, particularly Japanese

Demonstrable work experience (ideally in financial services or in an analytical environment)

Time management skills

Analytical approach and as a minimum experienced in using standard Microsoft applications

An understanding of sustainability / responsible investment and how companies manage environmental, social and governance issues would be an advantage

Type of Person

This needs to be someone who can juggle a variety of different projects and be able to prioritise and schedule them effectively.  It would also be desirable for the individual to have had experience in working in investment or financial services and to have an interest in sustainable and responsible investment. They should be;

Able to grasp new concepts quickly and incisively; to analyse and present da-ta/evaluative comment in a structured and consistent manner

Strong interpersonal skills: able to work within a team, with managers and staff throughout FTSE, as well as at director level with companies and clients
