200+ Beijing metro workers on US$1 daily wage were not paid for a single day [China]

[Original article in Chinese. Title translation, and following summary of the article's key points, provided by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre.] More than 200 workers from rural Shandong, contracted on a construction project for the Beijing metro that will run through the 2008 Beijing Olympic Athlete's Village, brought a lawsuit against a subcontractor for non-payment of their salary (of just over US$1 per day). The workers were not paid any salary for a year. The court ruled in favour of the workers, ordering the subcontractor, Shandong Linyi Kanyuan Construction Company, to pay the workers and commenting that the main contractor, Beijing Urban Construction Group, owned by the municipal government, shall "bear legal responsibility" as well.
