2020 calendar highlights Women Human Rights Defenders from Cambodia

Women are at the forefront of struggles for labour justice and are courageously working to build an economic future that has gender equality at its core. They play a critical role in driving transformative change, but face risks because by challenging power inequalities they are also challenging gender norms about women’s roles.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and the Cambodian Center for Human Rights are delighted to share a calendar that profiles twelve bold and brave women human rights defenders from across labour movements in Cambodia.

See the calendar here.

We reiterate the CEDAW Committee’s 2019 recommendations that call on the Cambodian government to “eliminate discriminatory gender stereotypes and patriarchal attitudes about the roles and responsibilities of women and men in family and society.”

While we celebrate by highlighting the resilience, vision and activism of these 12 dynamic women human rights defenders, there are many other women at the frontline working for the realization of labour rights and gender justice in Cambodia. This calendar is an offering to counter their erasure and highlight their roles and leadership.

In an era where women human rights defenders continue to face restrictions on their work, we hope you are inspired to elevate and support women’s activism and leadership.
