Beverly Geronimo was an anti-mining activist who was shot dead by two men while driving home on 27 May 2018. She was allegedly a target of threats and harassment from army soldiers since her and her group started a campaign against large-scale mining activities in the province. Killing happened in the context of a rise in killings of activists in the Philippines and sexist rhetoric from the government, aimed at women social leaders.
