A Modern Slavery Act for Australia Seminar
9:00am–12:00pm | 15 February | Canberra
A Modern Slavery Act for Australia - 'In Plain Sight' and Next Steps.
The release of the landmark Joint Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee Report ‘In Plain Sight’ provided a compelling case for the introduction of a Modern Slavery Act in Australia. In order to ensure that the Committee Report is implemented by the Federal Government it is important that we demonstrate our continued commitment to see legislation enacted.
The Salvation Army and Walk Free have organised a seminar for all interested organisations and individuals in Parliament House on the morning of Thursday 15th February 9am – 12noon. (meeting room to be advised)
We have invited the new Ministers and are awaiting their confirmation. Committee Chairman Chris Crewther, Labor Shadow Minister Clare O’Neil and members of the Committee Senators Gallacher, Reynolds and Singh have agreed to speak and answer questions from participants.
There will then be an opportunity for all participants to discuss the next steps in our joint endeavour.
We encourage all organisations to ensure that they are represented and have their voices heard.
Participants may want to take the opportunity to separately meet with other MP’s in the afternoon.
