ABN Amro wins FT sustainable bank of the year

ABN Amro…was named the overall winner in the FT Sustainable Banking awards last night…The award will be controversial with environmental campaigners, who have targeted ABN Amro for its involvement in financing aspects of the Sakhalin II oil and gas project in the Russian far east...Industrial Bank became the first Chinese institution to receive an award...[which was] for its financing of projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions...There was also a first for Russia when Center-Invest was runner-up in the sustainable bankers of the year category for its energy-efficiency loans in southern Russia...[Winners & runners-up: ABN Amro, Barclays, Banco do Brasil, Dexia Banka Slovensko, Nedbank, Compartamos, Banamex (part of Citigroup), Center-Invest Bank, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Industrial Bank, Raffeisen Zentralbank, Banco Sumitomo, Mitsui Brasiliero]
