Advancing Human Rights Across Our Operations

We are incorporating principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) core Conventions into a new Unilever Human Rights statement and aligning our internal Respect, Dignity & Fair Treatment Code Policy...We will implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights throughout our operations and report on progress publicly...Like many other companies, we undertook a comprehensive assessment of how best to operationalise and implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This included reviewing our Code Policies and ensuring alignment with our Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. We appointed a Global Vice President for Social Impact to lead this integration. This has resulted in the development of a new Fairness in the Workplace commitment to support our goal to enhance livelihoods. Our assessment was also informed by a two-year research project by Oxfam, ‘Labour Rights in Unilever’s Supply Chain’, published in early 2013.
