Amicus Brief filed in case against mining company El Cerrejón [Colombia]

…Cerrejón…[part of Anglo American, BHP Billiton and Xstrata] is one of the largest open-cast coal mines in the world. However since beginning operations, it has been accused of infringing the rights of local people, including indigenous groups…Colombian miners and rural communities are claiming serious damage to their health and environment after decades of pollution from the Cerrejón coal mine. They are also calling for better working conditions. The miners’ union, Sintracarbon, has intervened in the case and requested assistance on international legal issues.
