Apple Looks Into iPod 'Sweatshop' Charges

Apple Computer...responded to charges over the weekend that a Taiwanese manufacturer of its iPod nano music player...Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., better known by its Foxconn brand...was running sweat shop-style factories in mainland China...The workers, mostly young women from rural areas of China, do 15-hour shifts, are housed in dormitories from which outsiders are banned, and regularly pay about half their wages for room and board charges...an Apple UK spokesperson said the company was looking into the allegations.
