Armenia: Local residents raise concerns over water pollution hazards posed by Centerra Mining gold mining project

Gomq and Artavan communities residents, Vayots Dzor Region, are concerned with the geoprospecting works in their residential area. They expressed their concerns at the public hearings held at Vayots Dzor Regional Municipality on 2 December, where the project submitted by “Centerra Mining” LLC on “Kapuyt” poly-metallic mine geoprospecting was discussed. ““Kapuyt” mine is located close to the springs of Gomq and Artavan communities drinking water and any mining will destroy them,” said Vazgen Galstyan, Co-Chairman of “Jermuk Development Center” in his interview with EcoLur...“Centerra Mining” LLC is the subsidiary of “Centerra Gold” Company through the financial chain of “Centerra Exploration B.V.” company.
